Our Story

Ballet Edge Detroit, founded in 2017 by Erica Briganti and Angel Lavery, is metro-Detroit's newest ballet company. The Company blends classical ballet with an edgy, current style to appeal to the metro-Detroit community. Ballet Edge Detroit believes that all people, from dance experts to patrons with little exposure to ballet, will be able to relate, connect with, and enjoy their artistic work.

The Company is honored to be a part of Detroit's resurgence and has proven to be a performing arts powerhouse. They produced and performed in Electric at the Redford Theatre, were featured in John Sobczak's The HeArt of Detroit at the Detroit Institute of Arts, were invited to perform at the Governor's Service Awards at the Michigan Opera Theater, and were featured on PBS Detroit Public Television's Detroit Performs. They also are a recipient of the Creators of Culture grant from Culture Source in Detroit.

Ballet Edge Detroit also participates in local charity work. They perform annually at Saks Fifth Avenue’s Chinese New Year Benefit for juvenile diabetes and raise funds for local Detroit youth to attend their concerts for free.

The Company is proud to be “Detroit-born and raised” and excited to showcase the diversity of its dancers. The dancers represent different ethnic backgrounds, ages, body types, and dance experiences. Ballet Edge Detroit hopes to inspire the next generation of dancers by making ballet accessible, relatable and innovative.

In a short period of time, the Company has grown into a strong, diverse group of women from vastly different walks of life, and their shared passion for dance is only part of who they are. Check out the "Meet Our Dancers" page to learn more.
